Co-Chair
Kathy Eklund, RDH, MHP

Ms. Eklund is the Sr. Director of Occupational Health and Safety, and the Forsyth Research Subject & Patient Safety Advocate at The Forsyth Institute. She is adjunct faculty at Regis College, Dental Hygiene Program, where she teaches a senior-level course, Evidence-Based Decision Making. She was the 2017-2019 Chair of the ADS Board of Directors and is currently Co-Chair of the ADS Foundation.  She serves as faculty for the New England AIDS Education and Training Centers and HIVdent.org. Over the past 37 years, Kathy has published papers and contributed to several texts on infection control and safety. She is an author of the 2003 CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings and has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics.

Mike Smurr

Mr. Smurr is a veteran of the dental industry with over 40 years in the market with time on both the manufacturing and distribution sides of the business. He is retired from Patterson Dental (PDCO) where he was the Director of Marketing, Merchandise, responsible for manufacturer relations and the sales and marketing of all merchandise. Mr. Smurr is the Founder and Principal of MTS Partners, LLC, consulting on business development, sales, marketing, and acquisitions in the dental industry.

Treasurer
Kelli C. Mack, DDS

Col Kelli C. Mack currently serves as the Dental Research and Consultation Service (DRCS) Assistant Director, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Patient Safety at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Mack advises Air Force Medical Readiness Agency (AFMRA) on current issues relevant to dental infection prevention & control and patient safety, acts as a liaison between DoD and DHA consultants, dental specialties including but not limited to infectious disease (ID), epidemiology, operating room nursing, instrument processing, bioenvironmental engineering (BEE), public health (PH) and MTF Infection Preventionists. Col Mack opens and maintains lines of communication with Federal regulatory and advisory agencies, including OSHA, FDA, EPA, Association for Dental Safety (ADS), the CDC, and other recognized authorities in the fields of dental IPC and patient safety. As the Air Force Dental Consultant for Dental Infection Control and Patient Safety, she develops and publishes approved guidelines and training for the USAF Dental Infection Prevention & Control and Patient Safety Programs. In this role, Col Mack assists USAF dental clinics in developing effective programs by disseminating information via periodic IPC and Patient Safety updates and by direct, written, and web-based communication. Col Mack is also responsible for providing assistance in resolving operational issues to include assistance in conducting patient safety event investigations.

Col Mack received a direct commission in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps following graduation from Howard University College of Dentistry, Washington, DC. She completed a fellowship in Patient Safety and Infection Prevention and Control at Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System, Pittsburgh, PA. Col Mack was the first Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General for Dental Infection Control and Patient Safety in 2014. Prior to her current position, she was a General Dentist and MDG IPC Consultant at Travis ABF in California.

Secretary
Joyce Moore, BSDH, RDH, CRCST, CDIPC, DISIPC

Ms. Moore is a consultant and speaker focused on infection prevention and healthcare compliance. She began her career as a Registered Dental Hygienist before becoming an adjunct Dental Hygiene faculty member at Bristol Community College. She’s authored journal articles, collaborated with the CDC on their Foundations: Building the Safety Dental Visit program and with 3M and the Midmark Corporation as an educational consultant. Currently, she serves as a member on AAMI and ADA Standards working groups.

Joyce is a Certified Registered Central Service Technician, holding a certification through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA). She was the 2019 recipient of the ADS Emerging Infection Control Leader award and has earned the Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate, the Certified in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC) certification, and the Dental Industry Specialist in Infection Prevention and Control (DISIPC) certification.

Donald (Don) Cohen, DMD

Dr. Cohen is a licensed dentist in New York State for over thirty years with over 20 years of teaching experience at Columbia University SDOS and over 20 years as an Attending Dentist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He is past president of the New York State Society of Dentistry for Children and is currently Director of Compliance for Health Compliance Team Inc., a national compliance company delivering total on-site compliance solutions to dental facilities.  Dr. Cohen is also a member of the Board of Directors of the ADS Foundation. Dr. Cohen is also the Chief Compliance Officer of HealthFirst, the emergency medical kit company. Additionally, Dr. Cohen lectures and consults nationally on emergency medicine in the dental office and dental facility compliance.

Eve Cuny, MS, CDIPC

Ms. Cuny is the Executive Associate Dean at Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California, where she is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences. Ms. Cuny is a consultant to the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs and is a member of the National Occupational Research Agenda Council in the Health Care and Social Assistance sector. She has served as an expert reviewer and advisor to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She received the James Crawford Award for Lifetime Achievement in dental infection control in 2009. She is an internationally recognized expert in infection control in dentistry; publishing, consulting and lecturing throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. She has earned the Dental Infection Prevention and Control Certificate, and the Certified in Dental Infection Prevention and Control^® (CDIPC^®) certification.

Zecki Dossal is a Senior Director at Henry Schein, where he leads global customer loyalty and subscription strategies. He partners with executives to incubate and launch new offerings that can contribute to the company’s continued growth, market leadership, and global health impact. Zecki was previously a Senior Vice President at GLG - a global platform for on-demand professional learning - where he led strategy, service and operations for the private equity and venture capital business. He also launched the company's social impact initiatives, to help high-growth social entrepreneurs accelerate their decision-making and scale. Zecki has extensive experience working across sectors, and helped develop GLG’s business with a number of corporations, strategy consulting firms, start-ups and non-profit organizations. He was previously responsible for managing the global research team for the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) practice. He joined the firm in 2002 as a Research Analyst, responsible for recruiting and development of GLG’s global TMT network. Zecki earned a BA in Economics from Columbia University, after initially starting undergraduate work at Johns Hopkins, and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School. He serves on the boards of the Columbia College Young Leadership Council and the Global Partnerships Forum. He is also an Advisory Board Member of The Resolution Project and the Columbia University Center for Sustainability Policy & Management.

David Kierce

Mr. Kierce is the Global Platform Leader for Dentsply-Sirona’s Infection Prevention Product Line. Mr. Kierce has been on the Dentsply-Sirona team for over 25 years. He started with DENTSPLY Ceramco in June 1993 as a Territory Sales Representative. From there, his career has grown to include leadership roles in special markets, merchandising, and marketing.

Michael Monopoli, DMD, MPH, MS, FACD, FICD

Dr. Monopoli is recently retired as vice president of grant strategy for CareQuest Institute for Oral Health. He continues to be an advocate for oral health and currently serves on several not-for-profit organization boards and advisory groups that focus on improving oral health.

Prior to joining CareQuest Institute, Michael held a number of senior roles with the DentaQuest Partnership and Delta Dental of Massachusetts, an affiliate of CareQuest Institute. He also previously served as dental director at the Office of Oral Health for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Michael is a past President of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry and is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. He was inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2021. Michael also serves on the boards of directors of the Forsyth Institute and the Shils Fund. Michael serves on advisory councils of the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Michael earned his doctor of dental medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and two master’s degrees from Harvard University School of Public Health. He also completed a fellowship in geriatric dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

David Reznik, DDS

Dr. Reznik is the Director of the Oral Health Center of Grady Health System’s Infectious Disease Program, a program he founded thirty two years ago and serves as Chief of the Dental Medicine Service for the health system. Dr. Reznik is president and founder of the HIV Dental Alliance (HIVdent), a not-for-profit organization of concerned healthcare providers committed to assuring access to high-quality oral health care services for people with HIV disease. During the last few years, he has focused on ensuring that both providers and consumers of dental care have the safest possible visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Reznik has provided technical assistance to oral health programs throughout the United States for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau (HAB) grantees and serves as a clinical site visitor for HAB grantees. Dr. Reznik was a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) from 2002 – 2007 and during this time chaired the Treatment/Care sub-committee and Domestic sub-committees. Dr. Reznik is a 2016-2019 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar alumni working with multidisciplinary teams to increase access to oral health care for adults and children throughout the U.S. In 2020, Dr. Reznik was awarded the Atlanta Business Chronicles Healthcare Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2021, Dr. Reznik was awarded the Dr. James J. Crawford Award Lifetime Achievement Award. Also in 2021, Dr. Reznik was inducted into the International College of Dentists. In 2023, he was awarded the Distinguished Achievement award from the Emory University School of Dentistry Alumni Association.

Doug Risk, DDS

Dr. Risk is currently in private practice and is the Compliance Manager for Tidewater Dental in southern Maryland. His current position includes compliance, risk management and quality assurance for a 6-Office Dental Group Practice and as part of the ProSmile Dental Service Organization (DSO). After graduating from Georgetown University Dental School in 1987, Dr. Risk joined the US Air Force where he served in several clinical assignments before being selected to attend the 2-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Following residency, he had clinical and command assignments as well as a tour on staff with the Air Force Surgeon General, culminating as the Director of the Air Force Dental Evaluation and Consultation Service. He deployed to the Middle East and Central America. He retired in 2017 after 30 years of distinguished service. Dr. Risk currently serves on the Foundation Board of Directors for ADS, is a Diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry, and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Michelle Lee, CPC

Michelle Lee, CPC, began her tenure as Executive Director of ADS in 2018. She has more than 30 years of experience in the dental and healthcare industries. In 2020 and 2021, she was recognized as one of Incisal Edge’s 32 Most Influential People in Dentistry. Her experience includes leading the Southeast’s largest dental and medical staffing firm, as well as consulting with dental practices, and providing leadership and team development training. Michelle is passionate about ADS’s mission to be the leading provider of infection prevention and control education, training, and credentialing that supports safe dental visits.
